The Armory is known for producing a wide array of game aids, like graph paper, miniature painting accessories, and dice. They also are known as a distributor and retailer of other game company's products. They did not put out much in the line of adventures or rules sets but they did put out a couple of items in the 30 sided dice series. This series is based on what The Armory considered their unique contribution to the Fantasy Role Playing hobby...the 30 sided dice. The Armory is listed as a division of the Roy Lipman Organization, Inc. in one of their books and is located in Baltimore, Maryland.
Also mentioned in the backs of a couple of their publications is The Armory Wargaming Museum. This museum apparently offered a research library, exhibits and displays, seminars, field trips, competitions, translating services, etc. Sounds like a great idea by todays standards alone much less in the early 80's.
The 30 sided adventure tables were written exclusively for The Armory by freelancers Bob Liddil and Donald Cole. The premise behind these offerings is to provide a series of general dice tables from which a game master can create a campaign. These tables include everything from character generation to encounters, weather, rumors, plot directions, etc.
Bob Liddil is a true journeyman in the generic role playing field authoring books printed by Gamescience, Rider Fantasy Creations, Little Soldiers as well as his own company Bob Liddil Publishing Group/Pandora's Treasures and the short lived continuation of the successful magazine Sorcerer's Apprentice magazine after he purchased that magazine. This makes for a a very extensive and impressive resume perhaps unmatched by others in the RPG field with the exception of Paul Jacquays who easily outpaces that list.
Liddil's writing is known for its humor and parallels to his association to Tunnels and Trolls should be noted. As such these offerings clearly mention that they are 100% compatible with all RPG systems.
This list is rather limited to our library and we suspect there are a number of items not mentioned here or various unique printings of items shown here. We are presently seeking more information and errata to build on what we have started here. Unfortunately, we will not be featuring any of the dice, miniatures and mini paints (and there is a lot out there) so we ask that submissions be limited to printed material here.
Bob Liddil authored a number of items for The Armory under it's 30 Sided series. Recently an item has surfaced that was never published. It is called The 30 Sided Fantasy and Other Tales. While it clearly belongs in this series, it was published exclusively by the Bob Liddil Publishing Group.
