Gen Con 12, University of Wisconsin-Parkside

August 16-19, 1979

This years Gen Con is located at the University of Wisconsin- Parkside for the
second consecutive year . Parkside Association of Wargamers (PAW) and TSR are
the dual hosts this year.

TSR's Dungeon Master's Guide is released at this convention. Convention
volunteers are given a copy autographed by Gary Gygax gratis.

D&D tourney highlights include
- Official annual AD&D Open tournament for
324 people.
- 2nd Annual AD&D Invitational Tournament is
judged by Brian and Kevin Blume, David Sutherland
Tom Wham. Some of the participants were Gary
Gygax, Jim Ward, Len Lakofka, and J. Eric Holmes.
- 'Double Blind AD&D'- two teams compete
simultaneously
in one adventure. Only one team can
win. Ran by Len Lakofka, Jeff Leason and Lawrence
Schick. 2nd annual dungeon war?
- 'AD&D Varient' ran by Tom Christianson
- 'D&D for Beginners' ran by J. Eric Holmes
- 'Deep Dwarven Delve' ran by Len Lakofka. Later published by
TSR and included in its 30th anniversary boxset.
- 'Novice D&D' ran by Len Lakofka.
- 'D&D on Barsoom' ran by J. Eric Holmes. This was published
earlier by TSR as 'Warriors of Mars'.
- 'Quest for the Tome of Thomas' ran by Mark Mulkins. Thomas is a
powerful wizard who disappeared along with his spell book. The book
is rumored to be in a forbidden deserted desert city.
- Another non specific D&D tourney is ran by Jeff Leason and Dave
Conant.

Auction is ran by Mike Bartinowski, Paul Wood and Bill Somers. They
are all noted for their involvment with Metro Detroit Gamers (MDG).
These three ran last years auction.


All of this information comes from the pre-registration program so
many of the actual events probably were not printed in there.
