Gen Con X, Playboy Resort/Lake Geneva Horticultural Hall
August 18-21, 1977
First off, please do not make us point out the irony of the
location on this one. I am most certain this venue invited some
pretty high hopes amongst gamers!
This one was actually held in two different locations. Part of the convention
remained at the Lake Geneva Horticultural Hall and another part was located
at the spacious and comfortable Playboy Resort. Entry fee for the 4 days of
gaming is $15 at the door.
This Gen Con also hosted the Tenth annual
DipCon. One could also enter
into computer gaming
tourneys at this
delicate 1977 date!

Mini Collectors!!! Imperial Dragon was awarded
in a raffle by Archive Miniatures.
For fun, lets pretend we are about to participate
in the convention....
Thursday is largely considered
'open gaming' day with all event at the Playboy
Resort.
Basically, find a table,
solicite some gamers to join you and have a
blast at whatever your gaming interests are.
Friday kicks off the 180 player D&D tourney
designed by Bob Blake. If you can get away from
the Bob Blake tourney you should plan on catching the 2
different seminars ran by Gary Gygax and 1 by Lou
Zocchi at the Playboy Resort.
Saturday is the big day at Gen Con. Check out Mike
Carrs 'Fight in the Skies', Dave Arneson's 'Don't Give Up the Ship',
Diplomacy Gaming is presided over by Lenard Lakofka and of course the
ongoing D&D tourney designed by Bob Blake. If you have time, stop
over to the Playboy Resort for seminars by Fritz Leiber and Harry Fischer
on Lankmar/Nehwon and another by MAR Barker on Tekumel/Empire
of the Petal Throne (EPT). Stop by the Horticultural Hall for the auction
hosted by Thom Wham.
Sunday is the wrap up day. Play in the Greyhawk tourney
run by Rob Kuntz and watch the final round of the official D&D
tourney by Bob Blake. Play in the OGRE tourney ran by Mark Ratner, please
bring your own copy of OGRE published by Judges Guild. Play in EPT tourneys
run by MAR Barker and David Sutherland (noted early TSR artist).
Dinner... Head on over to the Gargoyle in downtown
Lake Geneva.
Dealers.... included Zocchi and associates,
Judges Guild, Lowry Enterprises (Guidon), Flying
Buffalo, Ral Partha, amongst others.
Auction...for used games, charged 10% of final sale.
Jeff Perren (Chainmail author) was in charge of the movies.
