Frank Kelly Freas




Freas is one of the most recognized Science-Fiction painters worldwide. He started out in the 1950's, when he became cover artist of MAD Magazine. Later, he became an official NASA mission artist (and designed the emblem for the first Skylab mission). Freas has won the won the Hugo (the most important award of the science-fiction scene) ten times now, and only Michael Whelan has more. The years of his victory are 1955, 1956, 1958 and 1959, then again nineteen years later in 1970 and every year from 1972 to 1976! In 2001 he even received the 'Retro Hugo 1951' for works published in 1950. Even Frazetta himself won the Hugo only once. His art was on music CDs, comics, books and much more. He also illustrated stories of Isaac Asmimov.

In the early 90's, Freas was did some freelancing work for TSR's SPELLJAMMER campaign.

Frank Kelly Freas is married to Laura Freas.
