Additional printing (7th?) for the OCE.

The only difference I have seen so far is the catalog on the last page of Men & Magic.
This print lists prices for all items and adds the subscription rates for Dragon Magazine.

'7th' print also has some minor text differences, will have to dig that out again.

This was from David ((I think the perceived '7th' with prices was to become the '6th', and the no prices 7th iirc he mentioned someplace))

Quote:

"Non priced" (i.e. no "$3.50" on cover) booklets.
- Only checked two copies of "5th" for consistency
- "5", "6", "7" are numbers for my convenience only since there may be further "hidden" printings, plus other cover variants).
- Notes in red are more significant points. Orange, somewhat significant.
- Minor printing flaws observed may not be significant in the end analysis, but could be of use for chronological purposes esp. if they occurred between prints. (n.b. not every single one listed here).

Can see how this could be read to give an order of printing 5,7,6 given various printing flaws and the staple similarities between 5 and 7. In this case, the price column in the stock list in 6 could've been removed when they, and the catalog, were no longer valid, rather than having been "missed" first time, as I thought initially... However, that scenario would also require some central pages of U&WA (with the Balrogs and Ents) to have been "stacked away" for compilation later.

My font research lead me to at least a couple of other differences:

Pg 3.1: "Forward"
Again, this seems to appear in some prints (5th?) but not others. It does not exist in mine. But I've seen scans showing this text (specifically a purported 5th print).

Pg 6: Image labeled Sprites
This exists in some prints (5th?) but not others (6th or 7th)
My copy matches 6th and 7th from the descriptions above and does not have the image. Again, I've seen scans of multiple other books that do have this image.

Font replacement/reformatting in M&M of last two paragraphs of pg 6 and hold portal on pg 23. Can't compare these yet against other print runs.

I think it would be good idea to add images of one of the examples. Which page do you guys think would be the best one to include?

It depends on what you'd like to try and show. I'd think you'd want one example of each type of change.

1. Removal
"(i.e, a Balrog)," - M&M pg 23.11

2. Replacement
Balrogs vs. Tom Wham art - M&T pg 14

3. Reformat
Hobbits & Balrog, Halfings & Dragon - M&M pg 8

4. Print error
"THE" in "THE WILDERNESS" damaged - U&WA pg 14

*nods* Thanks, Shane; yes, "6" & "7" were "numbers for my convenience" at that point. Original thread with colored highlighting on http://www.acaeum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1941 (also includes front cover note for variant 1st U&WA not listed on http://tomeoftreasures.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3500).
