The auction data forums is an initial solution toward the purpose of providing valuation on the Tome of Treasures. The idea is to create a visitor driven and viewable database of auction endings. The following example is what we are looking for to create this usable database......
- Date of Auction Ending
- Auction type
- Condition as it reads in auction description
- ending price in currency $ currency for consistency in tracking
- notes regarding special auction conditions the visitor might find handy
- link to the auction so that the community can verify conditions for the purpose of transparency.
Initially, we ask that we keep the tracking of data to some of the more rare collectible items that enjoy coverage on the Tome. With some Common and Uncommon items it is convenient for the savvy collector/seller to do a simple ebay search to query current and realistic market conditions. For the Rare and Very Rare items, years can pass before another one or two bear itself in the market. A rolling record of these rare items is valuable information for the collector/seller to arm himself in determining what they are willing to spend/sell-for based on these previous recorded auction results.
As a matter of good form, we ask that contributors be fair-minded in selecting items with normal exposure in open auction or at the very least include some notation on what might have skewed the value to some degree. We also ask that visitor contributors refrain from posting auctions that they themselves were involved in as either buyer or seller for the purpose of transparency and integrity of the data presented.
Lots should be regarded carefully. When the value of an ultra-rare overwhelms the common items in the lot we would encourage the inclusion of this lot in the data bank with auction description notation. These items may have very little in the way of auction results recording so the information is too valuable to let pass. It would be better to refrain from the inclusion of lots with a mixture of Uncommon and Rare items if the value delineation between items isn't as clear, as the data would become difficult for the uninitiated viewer to digest.

UPDATE:
I have moved every individual post from the previous design and condensed them into single thread summaries organized by PUBLISHER alphabetically. As the lists continue to grow, I will be splitting long summary posts into multiple threads to keep the use of this information manageable.
Please make submissions via post in the corresponding summary thread. For example, simply post the Wee Warriors item result you were tracking in, what is now, the M-Z Summary thread.

I think under this new format, it would be great if the posts can remain as a secondary record to the summary. Its also cool to see who is contributing to the data. You and Mark are welcome to help me place entries from contributors to the summary. Just edit right into my post. _________________

Under this revised system, I'd like to not delete any posts. Once the summaries themselves begin to get out of hand (length-wise) then I will just split the summary content (first post) into additional threads. _________________

It sounds good, but you'll be in the same overkill boat when you get ready to split things with three or four hundred threads underneath. I'd recommend 90 days--the length an auction is accessible--else we risk the danger of being buried in countless threads of unusable data. That'd be a great problem to have and certainly something that is a possibility on the horizon. Forums have limitations and only provide for a solution in the short term. The much longer term will ultimately require this auction collection program that has been talked about that will serve as the next generation solution to the data we are looking to collate and present to the visitor.
Splitting is not a problem. It goes rather quickly. If we can keep all of the threads on the main page, I am hopeful it can remain useful to both those collecting data and those using it. _________________
