Thanks for finding your way to the Tome. Maybe you have had a chance to look around at the archives and forums, but I wanted to present some features and ideas in a more concise location.

The Tome of Treasures (ToT) is a project that has been underway for several years now. One of the main features is our Archive Section which is intented to be a comprehensive listings of all Dungeons & Dragons related products and merchandise. The scope of the Archives is present the details of each items (contents, page count, weight, publication year, etc.) as well as gather as much information about print runs, variations, print history, etc. as possible.

The Archives also will contain a price guide and a detailed list of the product's creators. Each name will be linked to our Rogues Gallery where you can see a list of the other products that individual worked on (and follow the links to those, etc.) An extensive amount of data has already been compiled, but it is by no means complete! We are still working on a few other areas of Dungeons & Dragons products, to say nothing of the vast volume of RPG material TSR and other companies produced for other game systems.

Finally, we do not intend Dungeons & Dragons to be the only product for which we support and Archive section. There are endless possibilities for expanding this and creating new sections and many opportunties for new users to become involved in this process.

I would add that the Tome of Treasures is about celebrating the people and companies that produced this material that we love so much. Not everybody was successful as a TSR or a Games Workshop, but that doesn't mean they didn't have somethng to say and contribute. Here they can live again and be remembered. That's the spirit here.

Yes, and let's not forget the Research forum. It is meant to become the motor of a continual research process to which each of you can contribute if desired. We will be monitoring the research and from time to time aggregate the results and add them to the Archive section.

Was the website named after this book:

http://tomeoftreasures.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=9324#9324

or is that just coincidence?

IIRC, the word Tome was bandied about and the treasures end of it took hold after a few others didn't sound as good. I guess you could call it coincidence. I believe it caught Kuo's fancy when we were trying to think up a name of a comprehensive website and I believe he was aware of this book as it was in his collection at the time. Seemed like a nice fit.

Scribe, I think you are right. We should give it a place of honor somewhere prominent at the main site.
