I received these dice with an auction for old D&D a few years ago. Can anyone tell me about them? Thanks.

I don't recognize them right off. Two guesses might be Grimtooth dice by FBI or maybe Dragon Dice? Neither seems quite right though.

I got several emails from people at the time wanting to buy the dice. It's a collecting sub-genre I don't follow.

They look like FBI dice to me; you can tool around their dice @ http://www.flyingbuffalo.com/dice.htm although my guess would be that they're Grimtooth's Dice of Doom, but there's no pic since they're OOP at present.

I haven't seen any either. It looks homebrew. Is there a publisher?

No publisher. It has the names of Young, Bartell, and Hendrick listed for the 2nd installment titled "Of Darkness and Light." It reads very much like a streamlined version of AD&D Rules. WOTC would never allow someone to publish something like this as they copy some AD&D info word-for-word. It's 92 pages long.

When was Baldur's Gate released? They copy the Alignment descriptions exactly.

This one is new to me too. You've had some nice finds lately - good stuff!

Baldur's Gate was a 1998 release. Interesting to see some recent small press items.

Thanks. I had a chance to glance through it and it's an AD&D hybrid. There are seven stats, numerous new character classes, spells and such, all mated to AD&D. The spells run up to 10th level, but the bonus charts for stats look the same. I'd put it in the 1990s if I had to guess.

Back to the original dice post, in looking through my Gamescience 1980 catalog, they have a picture that matches those dice.

I believe they are "Demon/Orc Dice" by Gamescience $1.50/pair.

Quote:
5/8ths inch six-sided dice with large, easily read numerals. In place of the number 1 is the head of a ferocious, helmeted Orc, which looks like an evil demon when turned upside-down. Dice are available in red on white or white on black.

Ah closure at last :)

Wonderful! I'll let the person who bought them know! Thanks.
