In case folks hadn't heard yet, Paul Stormberg and Neil Christensen confirmed Gary's death last night ~1am at home. More details later.

Thank you for the shining light of good times amid the darkness of adolescence.

Nooooo... I have no words. I am shocked. Thank you Gary Gygax for what you have created. I cannot believe he is gone now.

It is very weird. I feel like an epoch just ended.
Here’s to Mr. Gygax, creator of one of the most significant inventions of the 20th century, and certainly my life.

Cheers,
Curt

I am absolutely crushed. I was working in the shop this afternoon and was listening to NPR between tooling sessions. I caught a glimpse of talk about Gygax and D&D so I stopped and listened for a couple of minutes. At the end of the segment, they repeated that he had died (which I hadn't heard the first time around). I am still in shock.

My condolences to his family and close friends.

Had to post on this. I know I haven't been on much lately, but when I heard the news this morning I knew this was the site I wanted to check on. Please start a memorial thread as soon as you can. If there is some way to send condolences to his wife Gail, please let us know that too. I was happy to have met him way back in '76-'77 when visiting the Dungeon. -Tom

ps TerryAnn had her first ultrasound yesterday. I could see the head and 4 buds for the extremeties. Pretty cool. One leaves and another arrives. The cycle of life. Rest in peace, Gary!

Hi Tom,

I spent quite a bit of time poking around for newspaper articles and the such yesterday evening. I didn't see any arrangements regarding condolences.

There are a number of postings on Dragonsfoot about the arrangements and condolences.

K. R. Bourgoine seems to be taking care of most of this for the family. He has set up an email address specifically for this purpose (so their personal ones are not overwhelmed):

InMemoryOfGaryGygax@gmail.com

The funeral arrangements are also as follows and are open to the public:

Visitation is on Saturday, March 8 at 11 AM at:

Haase Derrick Lockwood Funeral Home
800 Park Drive
Lake Geneva, WI 53147
(282) 248-2031

A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM, also at the Haase Derrick Lockwood Funeral Home.

In the evening, there will be an informal gathering to remember Gary with food and beverage. Time and location to be determined.

If you would like to make a donation to Gary's favourite charity, Gary was endeared by the Christian Children's Fund:

Sad news indeed. Crying or Very sad

Devon and I were just up in Lake Geneva 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately we didn't try and visit Gary as we were picking up some stuff from Jeff Easley.

As much as D&D has meant to us, we only got to meet Gary once, and that was last year at GenCon.

We will try to attend the funeral and get-together(weather conditions permitting) and hope to meet up w/ Paul Stormberg and Allan Grohe.

-Shawn

The funeral services were very touching; I'll write something up in a bit---I'm in a bit of triple-shock at the moment, due to Gary's death, and missing the big PPP meeting with Rob (originally scheduled for that same weekend), due to the month-early arrival of our son, Henry Alexander Grohe (details @ http://www.acaeum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6847).
