I will post this in the Research Forums under 2nd edition AD&D, but sometimes there isn't time at the moment and sometimes it helps to have other threads to serve as "discussion" posts.

So, having read this quote of Plaag's:

ShaneG.

Aha! I have in my hands right now TWO separate printings of MC 10 Ravenloft.

1st Print is Angled TSR logo with BLUE writing on the first appendix page.

2nd Print is Gold TSR logo with RED lettering on the first appendix page.

(Unfortunately, my 2nd print is missing the outer folder and just has the MC pages).

Oh cool..wonder if they did the 2nd print to match the Ravenloft Monstrous Compendium: Appendix II: Children of the Night (MC II)

Yes, and a "G" is for German. Will post an example later.

So just a question as my next shelves will deal with TSR, modules for the most part...but I assume the postings in threads on the site base their info on what is provided by those on here with help of the information on the Acaeum.
But that information on Acaeum isn't noted, course if someone provides scans and info, can they classify something as a certain printing using the Acaeum printing info if nothing else is used to support that?

Kind of long winded there, but mainly is scans of every specific thing called out different in printings needed, or just state said printing with a scan of cover and possibly back cover?

Shane, all printing information is derived from our own research. Acaeum has offered to exchange printing information, but no official deal has been worked out yet. So please do not quote Acaeum information. We have to find out for ourselves.

What we're after are images of each of the prints for a stated item, and images that delineate those prints from one another. Every notion of a print run for a specific item is tentative. Otherwise it closes the door. Any person should be able to look at the data provided and conclude for themselves what a print order might be. When the time comes, an essay will be written for each item and placed in the Archive section of the Tome.

It's an ambitious project I know, but it's important for people to see things for themselves. Please check out the DMG for the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Many of the items here have product lists. It's important to get those down for future research. Sometimes that will be the only place an unknown title will appear. They're also handy for dating things.

Well for TSR I have made 2 docs (over 100 pages total) of product lists in tentative order of release. Don't have scans of every PL noted though since those that share them I kept only the better image and others don't have a PL at all.
Would one of you like to look over these doc files and/or PL files to have a template for printings?

shocked
You really did some serious research. 100 pages!

Yes, I would like to have a look at it and add all printing information for AD&D. Though it will probably take a while.... As for scans it would be great to continue the print run discussions we started for 2nd Edition, because others can see and contribute.

But please email me your list, I am very interested. This could save us a lot of time. Paul will probably be interested, too.

Sounds interesting, Shane, and thanks for whatever effort you've put in... Wink

Re. the comment above, anything I might've posted on the Acaeum fora as opposed to Scott's main listings is PD as far as I'm concerned. If you've delved down beyond stated printings on earlier material, please be careful for "best guesses" which were corrected later/on separate posts (the unpriced listing "late" OCEs/OD&D supps. being an obvious example).

Did you cross-check intro/stated dates vs. /actual/ release dates, too? Independent sources (e.g. TSG) ain't always easy to find and sometimes there are gaps even when taking all of those into consideration (hence the MA nudge on the other thread without quoting a specific date in response).

Cheers,
David.

Tried to cross reference stuff when I could find the sources.

Had written earlier but my computer is back on the fritz and I now think its the CPU, which really sucks.

Please follow the link below to the Monstrous Manual page:

http://tomeoftreasures.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2401

I have put all the printing I know here, but I have been unable to distinguish a 1st printing from a 2nd printing as they both contain a gold ingot label and no other identifiying featurs.

However, I was reading a Gold Ingot version the other day and I noticed this in the description under: Medusa, Maedar. Look at the last sentence before the "Ecology". It should say: "He smashes her petrified victims, then transforms them into meat". However, an early version simply ends the sentence at "transforms" with no "into meat".

This was corrected in later versions. I don't have enough handy, but it may be a way to tell a 1st print from a 2nd print.

Well I know I bought mine when it first came out, and it does indeed have the sentence stopping at transforms. Also I was right about the pictures for Skeleton giant and warrior being switched, course I don't have any later version to check when they were fixed, but I recall seeing them corrected at some point when I perused the book when it changed (which is why I think it was a black covered version.)
